Bretonnian Teams in Blood Bowl: Criticism
[The Team] [Why These Bretonnians?] [Design Decisions] [Star Players] [Gallery][Playbook] [Criticism]

So, Why Bretonnians in Blood Bowl?
Let me be up front about it: The majority of respondents on talkbloodbowl.com didn't want an official Bretonnian team - they prefer coaches to just use the human team with Bretonnian miniatures. And they've got Jervis Johnson on their side. JJ has stated that there is no reason to have a Bretonnian team, because it would be "just another human team". Bottom line: It is highly unlikely that an official Bretonnian team will ever grace the game of Blood Bowl.

On the other hand, asking about official rules for Bretonnians in Blood Bowl is a remarkably frequent subject on Blood Bowl message boards. I've met people online and in my local gamestores saying the same thing: "I play Bretonnians in warhammer, and I want to cross over into Blood Bowl"1 2. And since you're here looking for rules for Bretonnians, I guess you're thinking the same thing..

To me, Bretonnians are an obvious addition. I get that the Blood Bowl universe is not the Warhammer universe - but they are very closely related, and there is no reason why Bretonnians should not be a part of BB, just like high elfs and skaven are. Quite the opposite actually: There is plenty of background material, plenty of miniatures for conversions, and, most importantly, an established fan base wanting to cross over from Warhammer into Blood Bowl.

So - While official rules are not on the horizon, I hope that the team described here will be the official unofficial Bretonnian team.

Why these Bretonnians then?
Quite simply because they play well.
I've been fiddling with Bretonnians in Blood Bowl for more than 10 years, and after lots of scorching discussion on Blood Bowl forums, lots and lots of playtest of various variants, and finally redesigning the team with the help of 8 experienced Bretonnian coaches - I think we've got a winning formula.

10 years of discussion has established that we'll never get a majority to like any specific Bretonnian roster. But this particular line-up deals head on with some of the most common complaints against Bretonnian variants. Also, it was based on positively hundreds of playtest games with previous versions of the team - and now with several seasons under their belt in the MBBL and elsewhere, they're definately balanced. Tier 1, outside of the top 5, I'm told. And, equally importantly, the team is simply unique and fun to play!

So, you're more than welcome to make up your own house rules for Bretonnians.
But why not save yourself the trouble, and go with these rules instead?
In fact, if the team appeals to you, and you want to chip in, please give them a try and tell me about your experience: plasmoid at hotmail dot com. Thanks.
