Faster Games of Zombies!!!
After several games of Zombies!!! and discussions on the yahoo group, I've found that the basic game does tend to get bogged down, if there are 4 or more players in the game. The different expansions deal with this to some extent, but if you are the proud owner of just the basic game, then you might want to try the house rules presented below.
The problems that we
experienced were:
Turn Structure: The timing of the "draw phase" and keeping track of the
"one card per turn" rule proved mildly confusing.
Cycling: There are several extremely powerful cards in the deck. To get
to these, players quickly learned to play 1 and discard 1 every turn. Since
cards that help players are often hard to get into play, the powerful disruptive
cards were preferred over more constructive cards.
Death: Losing half your zombies (rounding up) is a massive blow. I'd
rather have someone win in 1-2 hours and have time for a second game.
Our house rules
1) Setting Up
Remove the following items from the game:
Tiles: 2 T-roads, 2 L-roads and 2 straight roads.
Cards: 2 butterfingers, 2 brain cramp, 1 we're screwed, 1 bad sense of
direction.
Lay out the town square, then a straight road to its right, and a crossroad to
the right of that.
All players start on the town square, and no zombies are placed on these 3
tiles.
Shuffle the helipad tile + 5 randomly selected cards from the tile deck, and put
these at the bottom of the tile deck.
2) The Turn Order
1. Draw and Place.
Draw 1 tile, and place it.
2. Draw and Discard.
Draw 1(!) card, then discard 1 if you have 4 cards.
You may play any number of cards, but on any round you may not play the same
card more than once.
3. Move
Roll for movement, and fight any zombies that you encounter - including a zombie
in your starting square.
4. Move Zombies.
Move 3 zombies one square each.
3) Equipment
All equipment cards can be played in 3 different locations. This overrides what
is stated on the individual cards.

4) Card Errata
Fire Axe: The modifier from Fire Axe may not be combined with the modifier from bullets.
I Don't Think They're Dead: Play on any player. That player must take 2 zombies from his zombie pool, and place them in any (legal) space on the board.
5) Other Rules
Movement: Increase any movement roll, which is lower than your current health, to your current health score.
Search: If you end your move in a building with no zombies, you may take 1 bullet.
When the helipad is drawn, all players secretly bid killed zombies, by putting their bid in their hand and revealing bids simultaniously. The high bidder places tile, but must discard the zombies he bid. In case of a tie, resolve it by rolling a die.
When a player dies, he must discard half of his zombies, or 5 zombies, whichever is less.
